Troubleshooting MAX Client Installations

Troubleshooting:

  1. Not a local admin on the machine (Windows – Computer)
  2. .Net 3.51 not loaded in Windows (Control Panel – Windows Features)
  3. Firewall is on or no exception for Port 8080 or 1433
  4. MAX and/or Crystal Reports Fail
    1. Go to the C:\Exact\RMClient\EFW folder
    2. Search for *.reg
    3. Select All, right click choose “Merge”. If you get a pop-up menu for credentials that is a User Account Control pop up. You may need elevated credentials to run Registry Editor otherwise click Yes to allow it to run on all. A Registry Editor warning dialog will appear click Yes to complete the import.
  5. MAX does not run – try running as Administrator and see if that opens the app.
  6. If Installing on a Terminal Server always use the command line installer execution mode. Open a command line as Administrator. Type CHANGE USER INSTALL then install all apps, then type CHANGE USER EXECUTE close the command line and reboot.

  1. There is a different registry key for each User session when connecting to MAX from remote desktop. The user has different permissions on the remote and thus can’t always create the Reg key entries.
  2. ALL RDP connections will get their own Key with the form SOURCE_COMPUTER_NAME##computername##DESTINATION_COMPUTER_NAME as in the example below.
  3. On a standard install at the DataManager Key you have the exact same strings but for the persons computer and not a remote session. Let me know if you have questions.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ExactRM\Executive\DataManager\MAXServerName##Terminal##MAXPCNAME]

“ExactRMPath”=\\\\MAXServerName\\ExactShared\\RMServer\\LIC\\

“ExactRMDBName”=”ExactMAXSAM”
