MAX Client Troubleshooting

MAX ERP Client Install Troubleshooting

New:

  1. Go to \\YourServerName\EXACTSHARED\EXACT\EXACT\RMSERVER\NET\SETUP.EXE then click through and perform a client install. If prompted for license location select: \\ YourServerName \EXACTSHARED\EXACT\RMSERVER\lic folder
  1. Login to workstation
  2. Navigate to \\ YourServerName \EXACTSHARED\SERVERMOVE
  3. Execute the ServerMove.bat as Administrator
  4. Review the Command Prompt screen for errors. All copies should succeed.
  5. Log into MAX
  6. MAX will initiate the upgrade process by redoing the Crystal install first and then execute the MAX update on the local machine. Follow the prompts and complete and log into MAX.

Troubleshooting:

1) Not a local admin on the machine (Windows – Computer)

2) .Net 3.51 not loaded in Windows (Control Panel – Windows Features)

3) Firewall is on or no exception for Port 8080 or 1433

4) Server Move bat did not copy files

5) Terminal Server: sometimes the user does not have permissions to update the needed registry settings to point to the license file for their remote session using the terminal server. MAX setting get iterated by remote session in Windows and thus need to be updated for the needed session.

  1. Navigate to the key >> [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ExactRM\Executive\DataManager\JOE-PC##Terminal##SRV-123]

Note that the key location for this users connection has the form COMPUTERNAME##Terminal##SERVERNAME

  1. Check the settings – they must look like this:

"ExactRMPath"="\\YourServerName\\exactshared\\exact\\rmserver\\lic"

"ExactRMDBName"="ExactMAXYourCompanyDBName"

"ERMCompanyName"="YourMAXCompanyTextName" >> this is what you see under the company name when you log into MAX

The above is all that can really happen.

Windows 10 Installs Failures and Crystal Upgrade – Report Button Click No Report

Windows 10 Installs Failures and Crystal Upgrade – Report Button Click No Report

The issue with the Windows 10 machines is resolved with a workaround – pending development fix – reporting on CC to support herein.

There is a workaround that was hard won sometime ago but I applied it here and the test machine is working – so we can get the rest of them installed and working with a quick trick.

Here are the steps.

The basic concept is that upgraded installs worked fine and new ones on the latest Windows 10 patch failed. I discovered that for new installs clicking the report button yielded no action. Means it could communicate internally to execute its intended activity. Had to be registry for Crystal of location of installed files on Windows 10 installs with new Windows 10 patch.

  1. Remove and clean off any previous install of MAX and Crystal from any profiles on the machine failing. Use CCleaner to remove old reg entries (freeware)
  2. There is a new folder on the server \\srv-max\exactshared\exact\rmserver\new588
  1. Run setup and install 5.5.8 MAX first
  2. …say yes to everything and Next on through

Run the ServerMove batch file first as Admin to copy all files and then as the user’ profile to update the Registry for MAX

  1. \\srv-max\exactshared\ServerMove\ServerMove.bat

Run MAX and allow it to upgrade

  1. Crystal Upgrade runs first …say yes to everything and Next on through
  2. When Prompted Upgrade Max to 5.5.9

Let me know if this doesn’t make sense we can try next couple remote to make sure you guys have the hang of it.

Move KnowledgeSync Event Manager to a New Server

How do I migrate KnowledgeSync to another server?

  1. Obtain the license for the new server. Open a ticket on the KnowledgeSync web site and request a new license by providing the new server name.

2) KnowledgeSync will not run on another server without a new license.
YOUR KNOWLEDGESYNC INSTALLATION WILL NOT OPERATE WITHOUT A NEW LICENSE.

3) Install KnowledgeSync onto the New Server.

IMPORTANT:
You must make sure the installation is in the same location because the Report and Script definitions are stored in the Data folder.

So if your Old Server had KnowledgeSync loaded on the "C:" drive and your and New Server has KnowledgeSync loaded on the "D:" drive , then the Reports on the New Server will fail with ‘unable to locate C:\yourreportfile.rpt’

You will have to change all of your Report Definitions manually if you wish to install to a different disk and folder location. To do this, open each Report Definition and Basic Script definition and press the Browse button and locate the file at the new location. Then press Save/Close.

It is better to install on the SAME DRIVE as the Old Server.

4) On your New Server delete the following folders from then copy the same folders from the old server to the new one.

Ex. C:\USERS\PUBLIC\KNOWLEDGESYNC
Attachments
Data
Fax
Reports
Scripts

5) Open the Event Manager

5a) You will then be prompted for your new KnowledgeSync License Key.
Enter it.

Enter the Log On Information for the KnowledgeSync Windows service.
Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Services >> KnowledgeSync (Right Click)
Properties
Log On

5b) If you are running the KnowledgeSync SQL Backend, you will need to run the "Reset Database Location"
Start >> Programs >> Vineyardsoft KnowledgeSync >> "Reset Database Location"

If using Exchange Email type, then make sure to install OUTLOOK and CDO and configure a Profile while logged in as the Username running the KnowledgeSync Windows service.
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Services
KnowledgeSync (Right Click)

Log on
