Synergy Office Integration Outlook 2016 Buttons Don’t Work

Discussion: After a Microsoft Office security update it is possible that the Synergy Office Integration (SOI) buttons will no longer respond. In most cases the ‘Save’ button will work, but other buttons such as ‘Workspace’ or ‘Workflow’ do not respond to any click.

This caused by the following security updates:

Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2010 (KB4011089) 32-Bit Edition
Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2010 (KB4011089) 64-Bit Edition
Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2010 (KB4011196) 32-Bit Edition
Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2010 (KB4011196) 64-Bit Edition
Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2013 (KB4011178) 32-Bit Edition
Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2013 (KB4011178) 64-Bit Edition
Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2016 (KB4011162) 32-Bit Edition
Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2016 (KB4011162) 64-Bit Edition

The October 2017 Microsoft Outlook security update disables roaming home pages in Outlook to address a significant vulnerability with the application, and as such, inadvertently causes the Synergy buttons to fail.

Before you start:
•Make sure the actions are performed by an experienced user or a system administrator.
•Any adjustment to the Windows registry is at your own risk.
•The steps will have to be performed on any machine running Synergy Office Integration.

Solution 1:

1.Open ‘regedit’

2.Navigate to one of the following registry keys depending on the version of Office you have installed:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Security] for Office 2016\365

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Security] for Office 2013

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security] for Office 2010

3.Add a new DWORD record and call it ‘EnableRoamingFolderHomepages’. (be careful of the spelling, this will not work unless spelled correctly)

Right click on the right side window, New, DWORD (32bit) value, type in EnableRoamingFolderHomepages

4. Set the REG_DWORD value by clicking on the new name EnableRoamingFolderHomepages, select Modify enter 2 at value data then select Ok.

5.Restart Microsoft Outlook.

Solution 2: If Solution 1 fails:

Set the EnableRoamingFolderHomepages DWORD to 1 instead of 2 from Solution1, restart Outlook.

Key Words: broke failed do nothing fail Outlook buttons SOI
